On a similar subject a recent contributor to the TRA Facebook page, Chantal, asked, ' I am sending distant Reiki healing to someone with a pacemaker. I thought only clients with diabetes should be monitored closely for their sugar level. Is it ok to send healing twice a week?'

Our reply: ' Some people feel that there is a need to be cautious about Reiki and pacemakers, but most feel that there is no longer cause for concern because this comes from a time when pacemakers were much less sophisticated than they are now. So the general agreement is that it is safe for people with pacemakers to receive Reiki. What I would suggest is that you ensure you stay in touch with the person you are sending Reiki to, so that if they feel that there is any adverse effect they can let you know - and it's a good idea to have a discussion about this before you start. Generally it should be fine to send Reiki twice a week.'

Hi Barbara. Just seen your post. I had my first pacemaker patient few weeks back. I always ask if they have one. I did my Reiki treatment but kept well away from the pacemaker which is usually located just below the left collar bone. I did ask the RA what their views were and they concluded it shouldn't be a problem because of the new types of digital pms that are around today. However, given the effect my hands have on hearing aids I have personally decided that I would treat patients with pms but keep away from the pm area. I also now ask patients with hearing aids to remove them before treatment. The effects were that the aid starts screaching and its most unpleasant for the patient.

I'm new to the Association and am looking forward to being part of a group of like minded folk who can support each other in this weird but wonderful thing we do.

Has anyone any thoughts on the giving of reiki to someone who has a pacemaker? My gut feeling is that this loving healing energy is not going to upset the operation of such a device but I have read somewhere that reiki shouldn't be used.
